Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:11

The first and front line protection any Christian will ever have is God’s word in your heart. If you don’t know “what saith the scriptures,” how can you ever discern between truth and lies? The Lord never changes. His word never changes. When Jesus was tempted by Satan in Matt: 4:1-11, he responded with scripture three times. He did not converse or negotiate. He put the scripture "on him" and Satan left. This is our example. Matt 4:1-4 Then was Jesus led into the desert by the spirit to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread. But he answered and said, It is written, not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes forth out of the mouth of God. Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 to Satan. Notice that he said, “by every word of God” will a man live. That tells me that he considered knowledge of the scriptures very important.

FOR REAL PROTECTION IN THE EVIL DAYS WE LIVE IN, PUT THE SCRIPTURE IN YOUR HEART AND MIND. CONSUME GOD`S WORD. WE ARE ALSO COMMANDED TO DO SO. TO IGNORE THIS WEAPON THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO US BY THE LORD WILL LEAVE ONE TOTALLY VULNERABLE TO ALL THE LIES OF THE DEVIL. JESUS SAID: "MAN SHALL NOT LIVE (SURVIVE) BY BREAD ALONE BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD". MATT 4:4
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Psalm 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Psalm 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Psalm 119:28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.
Psalm 119:114 Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
Psalm 119:169 Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word.
Proverbs 13:13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

SATAN`S IMMEDIATE ATTEMPTED RESPONSE TO SOMEONE HEARING GOD`S WORD
Matthew 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
Mark 4:15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
Luke 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

A MORE "SURE WORD" OF PROPHECY
Do you remember when Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James and John? (Matt 17:2, Mark 9:2) His face shined like the sun and his clothes became dazzling white, whiter than any man could make them. The apostles were given a glimpse of him in his glorified body. Peter wrote of this when he said “For he received from God The Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shines in a dark place. (2 Peter 1:17-19) This is so important to see. The context of this chapter is to encourage us “to make our calling and election sure”. Peter then mentions his coming death. Even though he had a great supernatural experience being at the transfiguration, he states that we have a “more sure word of prophecy,” and we would do well to take heed. He expounds that the prophets spoke not of their will or interpretation but as The Holy Ghost moved them. Peter is saying even though he had a great supernatural manifestation, the scripture itself was even “more sure” than what he had seen and heard. Even though he had a major “goose bump experience” that probably felt terrific, the word of God was “more sure” than his encounter. He is not discrediting The Father and The Son in any way. He is giving more authority and honor to the very “word of God” delivered to them through the scriptures than the audible voice he heard. If we will get this down in our spirits and understand the gravity of Peter’s writing, we can protect ourselves from many snares. Any dreams, visions or revelations we may ever have, will always be secondary to the written word of God. Any supernatural event of any kind must be judged by the scriptures. Any mystical experience of any kind that does not line up with the Bible must be immediately abandoned. This is our front line defense. When Paul describes the “armor of God” in Ephesians 6, the first item stated is “having your loins girded with truth”. The NIV reads “the belt of truth around your waist”. Put his word, the scripture, in your heart and mind, and you will be girded up by the truth. Paul said; even if an angel appears and gives you another gospel other than what you have received, let him be cursed. (Gal 1:8) Paul also wrote, “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.” (2 Cor. 11:14-15)
